What is CrossFit Kids?

NewWave CrossFit Kids is a strength and conditioning program combining gymsnastics, bodyweight movements and weightlifting elements, which are designed to be fun for kids aged 4-13 years.
Our program is not only designed to improve children’s physical wellbeing but it has many emotional benefits such as:

CrossFit Kids is a method for teaching Greg Glassman’s CrossFit to children. It is based on the principles of:

  • – Mechanics
  • – Consistency
  • – Intensity

CrossFit Kids emphasises good movement throughout childhood and adolescene. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enchanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids.
Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that excercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on a childs academic achievements.

CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG (Broad-Inclusive-General) fun for all ages. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and better health for our children.
If children grow up enjoying exercise and seeing the beneifts to their health, they are more likely to maintain fitness throughout their lives.

How are classes put together?

Each age group differs slightly, but the basics remain the same. The session will begin at the whiteboard, the children will then warm up, learn a skill, complete a Workout Of the Day and play a game. Our ‘Cubs’ classes are from age 4-7 years and last for no more than 30 minutes ‘Lions’ classes are from age 8-13 years and last approximately 45 minutes. Age range for classes is not set in stone and movement from one class to another depends on the child’s needs and development. All children are different and we aim to meet the demands of each and every one.

Who’s the Coach?

Our very own Rachel Glasgow is the coach, she is a mother of 3 and a qualified primary school teacher speacialising in P.E.
In 2014 she obtained her CrossFit Level 1 Trainers certificate and in October 2015 her qualifications in CrossFit Kids.
Rachel has a full up-to-date DBS clearance and is passionate about giving children the positive experience of CrossFit along with caring for their health and wellbeing.

How do I sign up my child?

You can purchase a one off membership or a 10 pack. Classes take place on a sunday afternoon:

  • 30 minute class – Cubs (4-7)
  • 45 minute class – Lions (8-13)

You can book NewWave CrossFit Kids classes and purchase memberships online. If you already have an account with us use the “Manage Families” option on your dashboard to create an account for your child. You will then be able to purchase memberships and book classes for them. What should they wear?

Children should come dressed ready to participate, as changing facilities are limited to toilet space only.
Please ensure your child is wearing appropriate clothing that shows arms and legs only, no midriff on display.
Hair that touches the shoulders should be tied up and any jewellery must be removed.

Do I need to stay on site?

You are required to stay on site during the session but please ensure your mobile phones are switched on silent and if you have to take a call, please do so outside.
